Chelmsford Escape Rooms

Chelmsford Escape Rooms is based in the historic Moulsham Mill on Parkway in Chelmsford.

This page is about the venue; if you want to book and play the games, go to the Chelmsford website.

The venue first opened in 2017  as a proof of concept in a large former office space with a loft, and basement access. The venue quickly grew and is now most of the ground floor of the watermill.

There are now four escape room companies in Chelmsford; Chelmsford Escape Rooms remains number 1 on TripAdvisor with bigger games, a dedicated game master for each booking, and is, in the opinion of our customers, more fun.

The venue operates with a Manger and team of Games Masters; it is also home to the Know Escape Human Resources department.

The sets are very authentic; we pride ourselves in the amount of effort and detail that goes into our games; the cell gate in ‘The Governor’ has been removed from a real prison in Scotland and repurposed into The Governor set.

Chelmsford is the capital city of Essex; it has around 120,000 residents living within three miles of the city centre and is home to Essex County Council, Essex Cricket Ground, BBC Essex, Chelmsford City Football Club and local radio station Chelmsford Community Radio.  Chelmsford is the birthplace of modern wireless, invented by Marconi.

Tripadvisor Travellers Choice

There are hundreds of reviews about Chelmsford Escape Rooms on Tripadvisor, including this one:

We recently completed The Governor escape room as a group of 3 (2 adults, one child), managing to escape with just minutes to spare. We’ve previously played the other available rooms at this venue (Crazy Cat Lady and Last Testament) and I have to say this is one of our favourite venues. The escape rooms have great themes and aren’t linear like some other venues, so you have to go backwards and forwards to find your clues, which makes it much more interesting. The clues are challenging but not impossible and there are lots of interesting hidden things to make the experience more fun. Our Games Master, Andy, was very welcoming and we felt perfectly safe in the post-lockdown setup. It’s great to be able to do escape rooms again and we’ll definitely give the other Know Escape venues a try as we’ve now exhausted our options in Chelmsford! I’d recommend this to anyone who likes escape rooms – whether you’re new to it or have several under your belt. Go to Review.
