High Wycombe Escape Rooms is the second incarnation of an Escape Room venue for High Wycombe, the venue converted to become a Know Escape Franchise.

After converting to Know Escape Franchise sales improved by over 400%

Escape at the Works contacted Know Escape Franchise about converting their existing franchise to a Know Escape Franchise after a problematic experience.

The existing escape room business was challenged by:

  • the low number of bookings
  • poor customer feedback
  • low return rate from existing customers
  • customer refund requests

The rooms are based in the rear section and above the restaurant. The location is excellent, on the high street in an affluent town in Buckinghamshire, which has recently seen significant rejuvenation and investment.

The Escape at the Works team had purchased a franchise from another franchise provider, and in our opinion, they experienced the following:

  • insufficient franchise support
  • poor game choices
  • low-quality installation
  • low quality supplied props
  • terrible game management tools
  • no guidance for partner construction builders and electricians
  • poor game training and support

The result was within hours of opening, the props started to break, and customers began to complain.

After a stellar effort by the Escape at the Works team to turn around issues not caused by them, they contacted us to help.

On arrival, our team inspected the venue and recommended all existing games be scrapped, and the venue was completely refurbished and rebranded.

Escape at the Works Closed

Once the new franchise agreement had been signed and implemented the Know Escape Franchise team then worked with the existing site team to remove and refresh the venue as the newly launched High Wycombe Escape Rooms with tried and tested Know Escape games.

The venue shares premises with The Works, a family restaurant in High Wycombe.

We’re so proud of the High Wycombe Escape Rooms team; they have done a phenomenal job of delivering exceptional escape room games as a Know Escape franchise; they now enjoy over 400% more bookings and the associated turnover with that level of achievement.

In November 2022 the new venue has a five star rating on TripAdvisor.

Games

Two proven Know Escape games were installed at the venue, The Last Testament and The Crazy Cat Lady.

A brand new game was written called The Big Hangover, it repurposed the historic ‘Harry Potter’s magical style game set that the previous franchise provider had installed.

The Big Hangover is successful and since installed at the Witham venue.

Open Games

Seasonal Games

Closed Games

Three games previously installed by another franchise supplier.

Construction

The existing rooms were removed entirely and replaced by Know Escape games. The local team and their preferred suppliers completed the building works, following the specs and diagrams provided by Know Escape. High Wycombe staff completed training at the Chelmsford venue, and Chelmsford staff also worked on-site at High Wycombe to help launch the games.

Reputation

The local community has received the venue well, and it has become a popular destination for families and friends looking for an activity and a place to meet and eat.

‘Free Time With The Kids’ visited the location and wrote the following review, which included:

"We left the High Wycome Escape Rooms, after consuming a fair amount of The Works ice cream, and Hubby declared this was the best one we have been to review! It was very well thought out, the puzzles were at the right level of difficulty, and the clues were about right too. Some of the surprises were very clever! I love it when you have those “ooh I know that” moments in escape rooms, and we had quite a few of those. We have all decided that we would like to try the Crazy Cat Lady next."

Competition

There is no competition in High Wycombe.

In Aylesbury, the nearest competitor, Vire, went out of business at all their locations in March 2021. Vire had locations in Bishop’s Stortford, Aylesbury and Hemel Hempstead, they cited the pandemic as the reason for going into administration and closing.
